About Mission Beach

Mission Beach is a popular community in San Diego, California that was built on a sandbar between Mission Bay and the ocean. Residents enjoy beachfront living, and many recreational activities.

Mission Beach is one of the more densely developed neighborhoods in the city with only 35 units per acre. Its lots are some of the smallest and range from 1,250 to 2,400 square feet. Many of this area’s homes have been renovated into two-story houses and some have been consolidated to create larger lots. Mission Beach covers about two miles of coastline and is bounded by Mission Bay Park, the San Diego River, and Pacific Beach. Mission Boulevard is the main street and there is a boardwalk along the beach on both sides of the community. This neighborhood is divided into North Mission and South Mission. The south end has a jetty that extends into the water.

The San Diego Unified School District is the second largest in the state. Students in this community may attend facilities like Mission Bay High School as well as highly ranked Pacific Beach Elementary and Pacific Beach Middle School. There are hundreds of private institutions like the Calvary Christian Academy, Escondido Adventists Academy, the Montessori American School, and Halstrom Academy. Public universities include the University of California (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU) as well as the San Diego Community College District.

Mission Beach is popular for its night time entertainment with bars like The Sandbar Sports Grill, The Coaster Saloon, Guava Beach, and The Beachcomber. There are many surfing stores in this area and the Promenade at Pacific Beach Shopping Center. This is a great place for horseshoes, sunbathing, skateboarding, bicycling, and surfing. The Wave House Athletic Club offers a beachside fitness center as well as beach bootcamps.

San Diego is California’s second largest city and the nation’s eighth. Its economy relies on tourism, manufacturing, international trade, and military defense related activities.
